Here you will enjoy the beautiful views over the magnificent Rochester Castle from one of the tallest castles in the country, built to defend the crossing of the Medway River on the highest side of Rochester's Roman wall. Many of the buildings in Dickens' works are still visible today. Your next stop is Restoration House, which in Dickens' novel Great Expectations, Restoration House served as Estella and Miss Havisham's home. The Six Poor Travelers House, immortalized by the author in a short Christmas story and the impressive Guildhall Museum of local history. In the footsteps of Charles Dickens, an Elizabethan townhouse listed as Grade-I will be our next visit venue, Charles Dickens’ Eastgate House. Dickens used this house in several novels such as Westgate in The Pickwick Papers and as the Nun's House in The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
